| Beginning on January 2003, the International Student Exchange Program of the Universidad Católica de Valparaíso will offer an intensive course of Spanish as a Second Language. This program consolidates our working team, which has one of the widest and most recognized trajectories in our country. This is the January Program, which will be held from January 13th to January 31st, 2003 and consists on a 3 week special program mainly oriented to improve communicational skills. It will be offered for three different proficiency levels:
Beginner Grammar 36 hrs Conversation and Culture 36 hrs Intermediate Grammar 30 hrs Conversation and Culture 30 hrs Social and Political Evolution in Chile 12 hrs Advanced Grammar 30 hrs Conversation and Culture 30 hrs Social and Political Evolution in Chile 12 hrs
Instruction Method Our instructors utilize audiovisual devices (chilean cine and music, in situ video shootting, direct contact with chilean culture) combined with regular instruction methods. Handouts are included in the program tuition.
Extracurricular Activities Considering the tourist advantages of our city and reinforcing the students’ immersion process, they’re given the chance of experiencing what they learn in class through weekly urban excursions. The costs of such excursions are included in the tuition and consider the most favorite routes among the students. They are: Los inmigrantes (the immigrants): visit to key sites on the historical migration movement that took place in Valparaíso: Reina Victoria Elevator, Lukas Museum, Anglican and Lutheran Church, and some boulevards such as Atkinson, Dimalow, Yugoslavo, and Gervasoni. Vistalmar: visit to the Naval and Maritime Museum, and 21 de Mayo Boulevard, including a boat trip trough the harbor.

Schedule Monday through Friday, from 10:00 to 13:15 Tuesday and Thursday from 15:30 to 17:00
Fees US$1000 (including handouts) US$350 (room and board) The students stay with local host families, get 3 meals a day and laundry once a week.
